First american political party.
Northern buisnessmen and banckers and merchants supported the fedralist.
They believe in a strong national government. -
Democratic-Republicans
They drew there followers from planters, small farmers, and artisans.
These people wanted the govenment to leave them alone as much as possible.
They wanted to limit the federal govenment's power and leave the most power in the hands of the state and local govenment's. -
Whigs
It was formed out the National Republican party.
The leaders were John Quincy and Henry Clay.
They were nationalist. -
Liberty Party
Was the political outgrowth of the growing anti-slavery movement.
They got the idea in 1839.
They demanded immediate ending of slavery. -
Whigs
They were split by then annexation from the Mexican War.
They attempted to offset this damage by declaring no platform.
And they nominated Zachary Taylor. -
Democrats
They were split from the annexation from the Mexican War.
The Southern and Western allied with them.
They wanted to extend slavery.
