  • Federalists

    Federalists believed in a strong national government and central authority. Federalist Papers were written by members of this party.
  • AntiFederalists

    Believed government should be run by "ordinary" people. Pushed for more state power and less central strength.
  • Democratic-Repulicans

    Adhere to the US Constitution and oppose monarchy and elitism.
  • Jacksonian Democrats

    Political movement toward greater democracy for the common man typified by American politician Andrew Jackson and his supporters. Followed Jeffersonian Politics.
  • The Party of Lincoln (Republicans)

    Strongly supported the abolition of slavery. Some Republicans believed in freedom for blacks, while others merely believed slavery would keep white men from available labor and create laziness.

    The democrats and republicans switched platforms between the late 18 and mid 1900s. Republicans are now conservative, hold tight money policies and hold rights from people.
