    The Judiciary Acts are put into effect, creating the Supreme Court to rule on the constitutionality of decisions made by state courts. The J.A. acts also created 13 district courts and 3 circuits courts of appeals.

    Congress adopts amendments 1-10 as a part of the Bill of Rights
  • Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality

    Washington declares that America was too young and weak a nation to pick sides in a European war. Caused Thomas Jefferson to resign.

  • The Jay Treaty is ratified

    Washington sends Chief Justice John Jay to Britain to discuss the seizure of American merchant vessels by British military ships. Britain agrees to evacuate posts on the Western frontier, but not much else. Washington was pleased because he kept his neutrality.
  • Pinckney's Treaty is declared

    Spain believes that the U.S is starting to form an alliance with Britain and consolidates its holdings in North America. Thomas Pinckery talks them out of it, gets the lower Mississippi River area, New Orleans as trade routs without paying duties by paying a deposit.

    Washington bids farewell to the American people, leaving them with some words of wisdom.

  • Election of 1800

    Thomas Jefferson wins the election of 1800 by a large margin, and Federalists are pushed out of power always for good.

    Chief Justice John Marshall sets a precedent by ruling that Marbury had the right to his commission but the court did not have the power to force Madison to deliver the commission.

    Hamilton is killed when Aaron Burr challenges him to a duel after Hamilton exposed Burr's conspiracy with the remaining Federalist leaders.

    After fleeing to Mexico, Aaron Burr is captured and tried for treason. He is acquitted after the prosecution cannot find enough good evidence.
