The Phonautograph was the first version of a tur table, invented by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville in France. Surprisingly, this invention did not play music it wrote down the airborne noise so one could visually see it. -

The Gramophone
Emile Berliner invented the Gramophone, which is the basis of the contemporary record player. This invention could interpret grooves on a flat disk instead of a cylender, making records a necesitie. -
The First Record
Emile Berliner invented the flat disc record, these discs were produced from a vulcanized rubber and were between 12.5cm and 18cm in diameter. -
For The First Time
The first record player is released to the people. The sales were good in the '30s and '40s but they were in their prime in the later decades. Unfortunately the radio did steal the record players desire for some time. -
Long Playing Records
Long playing Records, or LP were another type of record disk that were different from the basic record. This disc diameter was increased by 16 inches and the speed was reduced to 33 1/3 revolutions per minute, in order to play longer songs and tracks. -
The Turntable
Daniel Leeland Cooley invented the Turntable, this device was used by "DJ's" or "Disk Jockeys" primarily. The turntable was used to play multiple songs at events. The Turntables inspired, and invented a techniques called scratching, which is when one moves the vinyl disk back and forth. -
The Golden Age ( 1960's - 1970's )
