    First detailed map of the Columbia River, by William Broughton. The map was from the Pacific to present day Vancouver. This opened the area to navigate up the river and later become one of the nation’s largest ports. (Arts/Architect)

    Oregon Trail
    Corps of Discovery was led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark shortly after the Louisiana Purchase. They started the journey witch would become the Oregon Trail. I put this in the science section because this achievement started what would become many scientific as well Technology achievements. (Science/Technology)
  • American Fur Company

    American Fur Company
    John Jacob Astor organized the American Fur Company to exploit the Fur trade on a large scale. By doing this he kept the land in use by Americans, assuring that it did not fall into hands of the Canadians. (Science/Technology)

    Joint ocupation of Oregon Terratory

    US and Great Brittan occupy the PNW together because there are a large number of both countries citizens as well as businesses.(Goverment)
  • North West Company of Montreal absorbed by Hudson Bay Company

    North West Company of Montreal absorbed by Hudson Bay Company
    -North West Company of Montreal was absorbed by Hudson Bay Company who would monopolize the fur industry in the PNW. Hudson Bay Company became one of the largest companies in the PNW and was a major political as well as financial contributor to the PNW success. (Economics)
  • Rendezvous

    Rendezvous
    Rendezvous system was implemented to better organize trade. This allowed for Native Americans, mountain men, as well as fur traders to get together in an agreed upon location for sells, and trades. (Economics)
  • the Puget Sound Agricultural Company

    Hudson Bay Company formed the Puget Sound Agricultural Company, to begin commercial farming. The PNW would later become world renowned for its farming. (Art/architecture)

    First gospels
    Henry and Eliza Spalding traveled to the PNW with the Whitman’s. Fortunately for them, they had better luck getting along with the Natives. They were able to publish the Gospels of the bible in the Nez Perce language. (religion)
  • The Whitman Party reached Walla Walla

    The Whitman Party reached Walla Walla
    After a Long a tiresome journey, the first missionary’s make it to the PNW to start the preaching amongst the Cayuse Indians. This achievement encouraged many other people, including missionaries, to make the same journey. (Religion)

    Around 53 thousand people traveled across the Origon Trail

    This migration of people drastically changed the environment of the PNW. Cities were built, farms developed, and mines dug. (Environment)
  • Oregon Treaty

    Oregon Treaty
    United States signed the treaty that made the boundary of Oregon at the 49th parallel. This ended the partnership with Canada, giving the Americans free rain over all resources of the land. (Government)
  • Whitmans were brutally massacred

    Whitmans were brutally massacred
    The religion did not stick with the Cayuse and they brutally killed the Whitman’s. Fellow Christians did not let this massacre stop them from continuing to preach the bible though. (Religion)
  • Hudson Bay Company moved to Vancouver Island

    By moving out of the Oregon territory, business was open for American companies to excel. Also Canada would have less influence over the territory.(Economics)
  • Oregon Gold Rush

    Oregon Gold Rush
    The Oregon Gold rush accelerated the migration to Oregon. Gold boom towns were popping up all over Oregon. Ground, rivers, and mountains were being mined. (Environment)
  • Oregon Votes for Statehood

    After 3 failed votes for statehood, the fourth time was the charm. Schwantes believes that the reason that statehood was voted on the fourth time was because of the supreme courts decision that territories could not be allowed slaves. (Government)
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    Transcontinental Railroad
    Groundbreaking took place for the transcontinental railroad. Although it took years to complete, it paved the way to fully colonies the PNW. (art/architecture)
  • Indians made journey north in hoped of making it to Canada

    Indians made journey north in hoped of making it to Canada
    600 Indians made journey north in hoped of making it to Canada. They were led by Chief Joseph. They were stopped before their arrival and forced onto reservations. Putting Native Americans onto reservations changed the Environment where reservations were located. (Environment)
  • Cascade Canal

    Cascade Canal
    Completion of the Cascade canal that along with the completion of the Dalles-Celilo canal in 1915, opened the main body of Columbia River to through navigation. (Science/Technology)
