when did this happen
In Louisiana during the 1890's a law was made that whites and blacks could not sit together on trains. Homer Plessy and more of a black minority wanted to stop this rediculous law by passing this law. -
This must be stopped
This minority joined up with a railroad company to try and stop this in 1891 -
what was the consequence
He was sent off the train because he was 1/8 black and sent off to jail with a 500$ bail which is rediculous. -
How he passed the "law"
Plessy bought a ticket for the first class and sat in the whites only section. -
the local and state court.
Plessy went to local court and was guilty then went to state court and was guilty. -
supreme court
Years passed and plessy went to the supreme court they said," seperate is equal as long as it says its not in the constitution." -
more segragation
This led to more segragation and made segragation legal which made the country horrible and not equal for otherraces other than whites. -
Homer Plessy
Years had passed and plessy died in 1925 and segragation was still happening and getting worse during the years. -
This inspired people later on
These events with Homer Plessy gave leaders like Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks to stand up to segragation. -
Change
now in 2016 there is no segragation but there are people that think that people are inferior to them even though they aren't the USA has changed a lot sincce plessy vs Ferguson which is a great thing
