    The Pirates Roots
    dating back to April 15, 1876, when the Pittsburgh Allegheny brought professional baseball to the city by playing their first game at Union Park. In 1877, the Allegheny's were accepted into the minor league International Association, but disbanded the following year. baseball returned for good in 1882 when the Allegheny's reformed and joined the American Association, a rival of the National League.

Hall of Fame owner brought 14 players, some were hall of famers like Honus Wagner. they all would play significant roles as the Pirates became the leagues dominant franchise, winning pennants in 1901-1903 and a world championship in 1909

    He won 12 Gold Glove Awards, was a 15 time All-Star and won 4 National League batting titles. he still holds the record for most outfield assists, and is considered the best right fielder to ever play the game.

    after the three rivers stadium had worn out its welcome, officially PNC Park opened its gates on April 4, 2001. Intimate two level structure which offers all fans dramatic views of the downtown skyline as well as the natural grass playing surface. ESPN ranked PNC Park the best field in baseball. it is considered one of the best ballparks in America because of its location, views, the Allegheny River, timeless design and clear angles of the field from every seat.

    played 15 years with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and was one of the most dominated players in baseball during his time. first player in team history to capture the N.L. Most Valuable Player award a year later. ended his career with 3,152 hits. his .340 average with Pittsburgh ranks first in club history and he ranks among the top 10 in 11 other offensive categories. Waner was inducted into the hall of fame in 1952. his Number 11 was retired by the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 21,2007
