The japanese borrowed heavily from chinese culture mainly in the language department. In 500 C.E. the japanese adopted chinese characters for writing the japanese language. Many chinese ideas reached japan through a connection with Korea. BUDDHISM was introduced to japan in the sixth century, but a true understanding of buddhist teachings were not introduced until early seventh century. -

The Koreans taught the Japanese heavily in the culture department via a connection between them, Japan, and china. But it was influenced the most by a man named shotoku. He began doing this in 604. Shotoku promoted both BUDDHISM and Confucius ethics.One way he helped spread buddhist teachings was he gathered a body of artists to create buddhist image.This eventually spread and deeply affected the Japanese society and culture. Many of the upper class Japanese started to practice buddhism. -

This shares some similarities with buddhism and confucianism in which they both believe in bio spirituality and the worship of nature.
