In ancient times there were quite a few DIVERSE ethnicities in antiquity. One of them being the Jomon. This period was the earliest historical period in japan which began around 14500 BCE. The word Jomon comes from the style of pottery that was being made around that time. The language family of ancient Japan was JAPONIC. For 100s of years the japanese borrowed heavily from the chinese culture.

Today, the most popular ethnic group in japan is the *YAMATO group. The main languages of japan are Japanese and Okinawan. We can thank the Chinese for having their writing system, without that the Japanese language would be completely different. The *SHINTO is the main religion studied in japan. This shares some similarities with buddhism and confucianism in which they both believe in bio spirituality and the worship of nature.
