    Thomas Kuhn

    Thomas Kuhn created the book “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions” in 1962. The creation of this book made him famous; he developed the idea of scientific paradigms and made the case that scientific advancement is not direct and collective. He argued that it consists of revolutions that outdated paradigms and are replaced with modern ones.

    Kuhn’s argument was the transition was not simple from one theory to the other. He called this “revolutionary science”, which the old and new paradigms are conflicting each other. If the new paradigm is successful in fixing the outstanding issues and gaining acceptance, it will become the new paradigm. Traditional views were challenged with Kuhn's work but also highlighted the social and psychological factors of science.

    Kuhn’s theory of paradigm shifts shows scientific communities operate within frameworks that were influenced on how they interpret data. With these frameworks it may conflict the results in the adoption of a different paradigm when contradictions are encountered. Kuhn’s theory picked at many brains which affected discipline, including psychology, sociology, and history.
