  • Butler Act

    Before the act of 1944 grammar schools had been changed and had to offer half the places to free places. The act of 1944 was created to provide free secondary education for all pupils to the age of 15.
  • The Crowther Report (Recommended)

    The Crowther Report was recommended and it s intention was to raise the leaving age of pupils in school to 16. It also included the introduction of comprehensive schools for everyone.
  • The Crowther report (implemented)

    The school leaving age was raised to 16 at this point in time which still had a direct impact on the age i left secondary school.
  • Sex Discrimination Act

    This act made it illegal to discriminate against gender or age.
    Due to this act school had a fair workplace for all without which my education could have been male dominated.
  • Race Relations Act

    Like the Sex Discrimination Act the RRA was created to stop discrimination against race this had the same effect as it allowed multi cultural tutors compared to predominantly white had the act not been enforced.
  • Education (Special Education) Act

    The Education act of 1981 that was implemented was designed to allow and ensure all students have sufficient support to flourish especially those with special needs. It was backed by cross party politics and welcomed by all and is still in effect today.
  • The Education Reform Act

    The introduction of this act established that Maths, English and science had to be made core subjects and taught between the age of 5 and 16.
    It also introduced the use of SAT's in the core subjects that would be used to measure school quality.
    Both of these acts effected me as i both sat yr 6 SAT's and studied the core subjects.
  • GCSE replaces O levels

    The creation of GCSE's which replaced O levels was a move which affected all the use of them is still used today although the methods of delivering them is always changing.
  • Born

    This was the day i was born.
  • The creation of OFSTED

    OFSTED was established as a department for monitoring quality in schools. It included school inspections and research into equality and teaching.
    OFSTED affected every student under the new school regime as it gave standards for teaching and ensured teaching was accurate and fair.
  • Started Primary school

    I started my journey into the world of education at Pinfold Street JMI.
  • Education Act (under new labour 1997 - 2009)

    This act was created to reduce the size of classes in KS1 to 30, it was estimated that an average 2400 new teachers were needed to handle the demand for smaller class sizes but no additional fund was made available to pay the new staff.
  • School Standards and Framework Act

    In 1998 there were many changes to the way schools were run one of which was the creation of 3 new types of school these are community, foundation and voluntary. Teaching standards were also addressed and a policy was put in place which gave powers to remove teachers who were incompetent or underachieving. School standards were created along side the teacher standard to help tackle failing standards in a school and highlight key areas for improvement along with closure in some cases.
  • Finished primary school

    I had finished my primary school placement. Based on my friends and family going to the same place this was the main reason for my choice in next school.
  • Started Secondary school

    I started my secondary school placement it was at Darlaston Community Science college (comprehensive school)
  • Head teacher left

    Head teacher left
    There was a head teacher at Darlaston comp called Mr Szpaleck (he has sadly passed away now) he had the respect of everyone and his rule of the school worked amazingly, it was after he left that the feel of the school changed dramatically.
  • Special Educational Needs and Disability Act

    the SEND act was created to provide equal rights for all pupils it extends the Disability Discrimination Act of 1995 and required to make adequate adjustment to teaching.
  • Changes to policies due to multiple head masters.

    during the last two years of my secondary school it went through multiple head masters each bringing new rules this constant change made it difficult to follow and in a way respect.
  • The Children Act: Every Child Matters

    The idea that every child matters is to tackle the vulnerability by offering support and integrated education. It outlines the guidelines everyone who is involved in looking after children have to follow by law. A few policies are that each child should be safe in their environment and be healthy.
    Another is to make a difference to the child's quest to succeed.
  • The Education Act

    The Act was created to improve schools and strengthen frameworks for accountability.
    It amended the way Ofsted inspect the schools such as the need to publish reports and visit at appointed intervals.
    It also outlines the changing role of the Teacher Training Agency and enforcing the continued development of teachers professionally.
  • Finished Secondary school

    I finished secondary school with limited grade. at this point i did not have an idea what i would do for a career and did not consider further education.
  • Moved to Germany

    Moved to Germany
    During a gap from school and college i moved to Germany for about a year here i started to understand the language and culture of another country for the first time. This was my first real Independence as i done it alone without family. This move allowed me to mature and grow, unknown at the time but this growth became one of the influencing factors to me going back into education.
  • Renewed National Curriculum

    The new curriculum stated that all young people should be able to be successful learners (enjoy being at school and learning), confident individuals (live safe and full lives) and make a positive difference to society and all those around them.
  • The Academy Act

    By allowing publicly funded schools to become academies allowed schools to remain publicly funded but have more input into staff wages and curriculum.
    This drive means as a trainee teacher i may have to adhere to a slightly different policy or regulations that other schools.
  • Started my BTEC

    Started my BTEC
    I started my BTEC National Diploma in computing at the Dudley college.
  • Personal Event

    A very personal event started at this date and i lost my way. My course and college grades rapidly declined at this point and my future in education was put at risk.
  • Support Offered by college

    Due to the grades i was forced to talk to a tutor Azar who supported me and offered words of encouragement. it was thanks to his help i ended up achieving top grades at the end of the year without the support I am not sure they would have been achieved.
  • Finished my BTEC

    I finished my diploma with a grade of 2 Distinction s and a Distinction (A A* A) this ensured that i had choices for my future education it provided opportunities.
  • Higher Education Changes

    The choice to raise tuition fees and reduce places at higher educational institutes affected me directly as it tripled my costs. These kinds of increases can impact young minds into thinking they can't afford to go in to higher education.
    I believe these misconceptions do not offer equality to all as it can single out poorer families who may not want the large debt.
  • Started my degree

    I started my degree at the university of Wolverhampton.
  • Finished my degree

    I finished my degree with a 1st with honours like my diploma this ensured i had choices and at this point gave concrete evidence that i could start my teaching course.
  • Started My PGCE

    I started my PGCE at Wolverhampton University on this date it is the start of my teaching career.
  • Graduation Day

    Graduation Day
    This is the graduation day for my degree where it showed hard work and enthusiasm can pay off. It also gave me my official certificate which was needed to start my teaching course.
