    Barack Obama becomes 44th president
    On January 20th 2009, Obama was the inaugurated as the 44th president. He ran as the a representative of the democratic party. He was the first African American president in office. He won the election in November against John McCain.
  • My 3rd Birthday Party

    My 3rd Birthday Party
    My 3rd birthday was princess themed and I dressed up in an aurora costume. My whole family came for my party, and all my cousins helped my blow out my candles. I remember opening all my gifts, and enjoying my cake with my family. It was overall a great birthday! This event made me feel happy, and it was just a pure moment.

    President Obama addressed the nation to announce that Laden is dead; the leader of Al Queda. Obama announced that the United States launched a targeted operation in Afghanistan.
  • Rio Olympics 2016

    Rio Olympics 2016
    They were held from August 5th to August 21st. This was the first time that the games were held in South Africa. There were 11,328 athletes participating, from 207 teams.
  • Zika Virus Outbreak

    The zika virus outbreak occurred in Southern and Central America. And was detrimental to these areas, because the disease spread so quickly. It was carried by mosquitos and caused fever, rash and headache. But it was very detrimental to the health of pregnant mothers.

    My 1st day of 6th Grade
    My first day of sixth grade was not a very good experience for me. It was so different from elementary school, and it caused me to be very anxious. I hated going on the bus with the high schoolers and I got lost in the halls on my way to class. I was upset and anxious for most of the day because it was so overwhelming. The first day lead to a very tough year, filled with anxiety and overwhelmed feelings at school. It was a year that I struggled, but once I got over it, I began to enjoy school.

    Winning my first cross country meet
    In 7th grade I ran cross country. It was an exceptionally hot day in September and I was very nervous for the race. Once it started, I felt good and once I reached the mile marked I was towards the front of the team. I broke away and finished the race, and got my PR. I was exhausted in the moment, but I was very proud of myself for finishing the race and doing my very best.

    School getting shut down due to covid
    I still vividly remember the day all of our schools got closed. I was at soccer tryouts, and rumors began to spread that school would get shut down. No one really knew what was happening, but people were excited for the chance of no school. At the end of practice, the coaches told us schools were closed. My feelings were mixed in that moment. I was happy we would have no school, but worried about why we couldn't be in school.

    My 14th Birthday
    My 14th birthday happened a month after covid began. Since everything was shut down, it made me kind of sad I couldn't see my friends. But I began to realize I got to spend it with my family, and we were all healthy. And as I sat down to blow out my candles, I shifted my perspective from unhappy to grateful that I got to eat cake with my family. And that we were all healthy and together.

    More than 8.2 people fled, and caused tens of thousands of casualties. Extensive environmental damage caused by the war contributed to food crises worldwide.
  • Playing my last ever tournament with my travel team

    Playing my last ever tournament with my travel team
    Over the last summer, I played my last tournament with my travel team. I've played with my team for the last 5 years, and it was a bitter sweet end. We ended up winning the tournament and playing the best we ever have. But I would never get to see most of these girls again, that I've made connections with over the years. As the medals were passed out, my friend hugged me and said, "I'm gonna miss you." And in that moment all the sad feelings I had began to rise, until I cried way too hard.

    My first day of senior year was a rather emotional one. I realized it would be my first last day, one of many lasts to come. But I was so excited for this year, with lots of new opportunities to come. And having all the important people in my life to experience it with.
