First use of the hashtag
Use of #hashtag proposed by Tweeter user number 1,186, Chris Messina. This was the first use of a hashtag. I have rarely used them in my own posts, however, I have still used them, so this is significant to me. -
Instagram and Pinterest Usage
Photo-sharing sees a renewal with the launch of social-based services such as Pinterest and Instagram. I use both of these in my personal life. I use Pinterest more than Instagram, but I post on Instagram (very rarely). I was 9 when this came out and didn't actually start using it until 7th grade. Picture from Instagram's Wikipedia. -
I got my First iPod and iPad
This was the year that I got my first iPod to listen to music on the bus and to play games. I also got an iPad mini for Christmas, I mainly used this for games. -
Facebook comeback
1 billion users (1 in 7 people on Earth) access Facebook on a single day. I became on of these many users around this time. I didn't get Facebook until late high school. I rarely post on it, but I use it to see what everyone else is up to. -
Schools getting technology to bring home
This was the year that students who were in k-12 got an iPad or MacBook to do their work at home. At this point I was in college and had to buy my own technology. -
Beginning of teaching
I started teaching at this point and was given a laptop and an iPad to use in the class and to take home to work on lesson plans.
