Upon his election in 1932, FDR would lay out a series of economic reforms called "The New Deal". Programs such as Federal Project one offered work to starving artist and programs such as Social security to jumpstart the American economy. -

The Southern Manifesto
During the Civil Rights movement, southern politicians would release a manifesto criticizing the power of the federal government because of its attempts at integration which they saw as a violation of the relationship between state and federal governments. The Manifesto also criticized government intervention in economic policies from the New Deal. -
