Federalist Party
They believed in a strong national government. They also beleived in strong banks and supporting their buissnesses. The Federalists were supported by northern businessmen, bankers, and merchants. The second president of The U.S , John Adams was a very famous federalist. -
Democratic-Republicans
They got their support from planters, small farmers, and artisans. Democratic-Republicans wanted the government to leave them alone as much as possible. Andrew Jackson, the U.S's seventh president, was a Democratic-Republican. He changed the party's name to Democrats. (1828) -
Democrats
The Democrats supported free trade. They attracted farmers and the immigrants. Slavery and states' rights separated Democrats into North and South branches. (1854) -
Whig (National Republicans
People that had once been Federalists joind the National Republican or Wig party. 1854 the Wig party was loosing to Northern Ablitionists and the "Know Nothing" party. Over the issues of slavery or catholics and foreigners. -
Republican
They favored business interests and high taxes on imports. Attracted farmers and immigrants. They thought that the government was taking to much power. They fought against governmental intererence with buisness. -
Green Party
Have been working to create a more democratic, safer, and cleaner world. Goal is to have decisions are made by the people. The oldest continuously active Green organization in America.
