Byzantine/ The Cambrai Madonna
This is Byzantine art painted by Saint Luke. It is a representative portrait of Mother Mary holding her son Jesus. The background decoration is of typical Byzantine devotional paintings. Mary is dressed up in a blue robe which is part of the Holy Roman Byzantine clothing theme. There placement and the way she's holding him against her cheek is a departure of Byzantine tradition.
I liked this painting as it portraits important people in Christianity showing the bond between a mother and her child -

Renaissance/ Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa painitng by Leonado Di Vinci is a half-body portrait of an Italian woman that was sitting with a beautiful landscape scene set as the background to this beautiful peice of art. She didn't have any eyebrows as it was common for women at that time to pluck them off.
This is the most famous painting during the Renaissance period. It also has a remarkable background. Behind her left shoulder are trees and rivers, but behind her right shoulder is a worned off landscape without no trees. -
Baroque/ Equestrain Portrait of the Duke of Lerma
This here is a Portrait by Peter Paul Ruben of the Spanish Army chief on a horse with a battle on the background. This here is a historical scene. The subject being with his chest pushed up shows the power and vigor of his strong personality. This narrates to us the haughtiness and pride he had during that moment.
I liked this painitng as the character faced fowared towards the viewers, creating a Baroque effect. The tree gave a frame work to the figure which added to the effect -
Romanitic/ Fisherman at Sea
A tremendous piece of art by JMW Turner which shows the overwhelming power of nature over human beings. There is a contrast between the moonlight and the ow-lightening lantern on the boat which also emphasizes nature's power over manking=d and the fisherman.
This painting expresses the emotion of fear they were in through from the darkness and waves. The moon on top of them lighting the boat may indicated the romantic moment. -
Realist/ Le recontre, ou "Bonjour Monsieur Courbet"
A genre landscape scene where Gustave Courbet, the artist, himself is in the painitng. At that moment, his servent, patron and his his dog were greeting him before he travelled. The painitng has the subject in their normal everyday life being turthful with no artificial conventions made. As a realist painting, it shows how realistic they are with no supernatural elements or abstract ideas.
The calm colors caught my attention as it is of real life indicated by the shadows shown. -
Post Impression/ The Potato Peeler
This is a magnificent painting for Vincent van Gogh. The genre portrait of a peasant that peeled potatoes all day. the dark tones used where bring out the subject matter favored by Impression. Using palette colors and broken brushstrokes to paint it where major indicators of the Post-Impression time period.
I liked this painting as the painting style is different from all the time periods and the usage of vivd colors would show the emotional impact in the painting. -
Surrealist/ The Elephant Celebes
An abstract work of art by Max Ernst with a vivd, dreamlike atmosphere of surrealism. The mechanical elephant had a horse protruding it that reffered to as an elephant's trunk. The machine being formed as an elephant gave it life to express itself. It is part of the Surrealist act. The surgery glove which the mannequin is wearing is also a Surrealist symbol.
This painting attracted me as the painter created a strange creature from everyday objects and allowed the unconscious to express itself. -
Contemporary art/ The Lost City
Mad had painted this painitng of an abstract city found in modern life. It doesn't have anything on a straight line. Knowing that it is a modern city by the skyscrapers and the sun lighting giving color to them. The sky is painted with a broken brushstroke technique adding to the abstract work.
I liked this painting as the artist had given bright rich colors with a great style.
