Identity vs confusion
At age 17, Sara wants to quit her first job at Walmart, so she can focus more on school. In Erikson's 5th stage, identity vs. confusion, Sara's crisis is between quitting her job or staying and continuing to work and earn money. -
Intimacy vs. Isolation
At age 28, Sara was divorced by her husband, Gale (age 32). Sara thought he was the love of her life and she was devastated over the divorce. She decided to never let anyone close to her again. In Eriksons 6th stage, intimacy vs. isolation the crisis here is between letting people back into her life or blocking everyone out. -
integrity vs. despair
At age 68, Sara got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. She has no family, due to removing herself from society, and she has a low-paying job at Costco. Sara has been depressed ever since her divorce, as has never picked herself back up. In Eriksons Stage 8, the crisis is between regretting closing herself off and being satisfied with the life she lived.
