World War 1
When war began in Europe in 1914, Japan promtly sided with the Allies (United Kingdom, France, Italy, United States, and Russia) and issued a decleration of war on Germanty. Japan took advantage of the problems in Europe to seize German holdings on the Shantung (Shandong) Peninsua of China. They also took possesions of the German's wetern Pacific islands- the Marianas, Carolinas and Marshalls. -
