President Roosevelt austhorized the isolation of Japanese and Japanese Americans in the US to be forced to live in camps. There were nearly 120,000 in internment camps located around the US until the end of the war. -

US wins Battle of Midway
Japan attacked the US at Pearl Harbor, in hopes of knocking out the US's ability to stop Japan's advance in the Pacific. The US sinks 4 Japanese aircraft carriers heading to attack the small Midway island (near Hawaii) naval base after breaking Japanese secret codes. Japan's advance in the Pacific comes to an end. -

Allies enter Rome, the first Axis capital to be liberated. -
D-Day invasion at Normandy, France
Called "Operation Overlord". Allied forces landed on Normandy beach in France. Thousand of ground troops landed on the beach and lost their lives. Within a month from D-Day, the Allies have landed 920,000 troops, and have lost 62,000 men killed, wounded and missing. -
