The Creation

4000 BCE

the Creation God's act of bringing the universe into being. the universe as thus brought into being by God.

The fall of Adam and Eve

3150 BCE

Because Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the Lord sent them out of the Garden of Eden into the world. Their physical condition changed as a result of their eating the forbidden fruit. As God had promised, they became mortal.

The Flood

2294 BCE

The Genesis flood narrative is the Hebrew version of the universal flood myth. It tells of God's decision to return the universe to its pre-creation state of watery chaos and remake it through the microcosm of Noah's ark.

Abraham

2100 BCE

All of these are real outcomes of the faith of Abraham-the believer and the biblical father of faith on whom Jesus himself, the Jew from Nazareth, bases his teachings in many aspects. In Jesus' teaching, Abraham is not only a father of the nation and of faith.

Jacob(Israel)

1900 BCE

His agency was tested. Through this wrestle, Jacob proved what was most important to him. He demonstrated that he was willing to let God prevail in his life. In response, God changed Jacob's name to Israel, meaning 'let God prevail.

Joseph/Egypt

1700 BCE

Joseph was one of Jacob's 12 sons. His father loved him more than any of the others and gave him a colored cloak. His brothers were jealous of him and sold him into slavery. He was taken to Egypt and eventually became steward to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials.

Moses

1500 BCE

After the Ten Plagues, Moses led the Exodus of the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red Sea, after which they based themselves at Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments. After 40 years of wandering in the desert, Moses died on Mount Nebo at the age of 120, within sight of the Promised Land.

Joshua and Conquests

1400 BCE

The conquest begins with the battle of Jericho, followed by Ai , after which Joshua builds an altar to Yahweh at Mount Ebal in northern Canaan and renews the Covenant in a ceremony with elements of a divine land-grant ceremony, similar to ceremonies known from Mesopotamia.

Judges

1200 BCE

The biblical judges are described in the Hebrew Bible, and mostly in the Book of Judges, as people who served roles as military leaders in times of crisis, in the period before an Israelite monarchy was established.

Saul and David

1000 BCE

Saul was compelled to place young David at the head of his army (I Samuel 18:5). Even though David then married Saul's daughter Michal and became a close friend of Saul's son Jonathan, an intense rivalry developed between the young new general and the king. Saul even began to plot to kill him.
