She was born Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. The later on she was sent to live with a man she called her father in Tennessee. While, in high school she landed a job in radio and began working with a local production company. Schooling
After high school, Oprah attended Tennessee State University on a full scholarship she earned based on her communication skills. She graduated with a degree in Speech Communications and Performing Arts. During her college education, she was offered a job as a co-anchor on the CBS television station. She declined several times before she was convinced by her professor. Oprah then wanted to find work outside of Nashville.

Oprah co-starred in Stephen Spielberg's, The Color Purple. She played as a distraught housewife. She recalled a scene where Spielberg wanted her to cry, but she didn't have the skill to find that moment. Winfrey said that, to this day she has never been happier in her life than when she worked on this film. She also starred in many other films. -

The Oprah Winfrey Show first aired on September 8th, 1986. Within months, the show went from being last in the rankings to being the best in Chicago. It was one of the most popular and influential daytime talk shows in the history of television. It's also the longest running and highest-rated show in that genre.

Interview
Winfrey interviews Michael Jackson, who hadn't given an interview in 14 years. The interview was held live at his Ranch. 90 million people worldwide watched as he talked about his plastic surgery. It occured shortly before child-abuse allegations rose against the pop star. It was the most watched interview in history.

Dr.Phil
Oprah invited "Dr.Phil" on her show in 1998. Effectively launching his television career. He soon became a weekly guest. He was a "relationship and life strategy expert". In 2002, Dr. Phil got his own show, produced by Winfrey's Harpo Studios.(Los Angeles Times). -

She jumped up and down shouting, "Everybody get's a car!". Drake and Josh
On September 24, 2006, Oprah appeared on Drake and Josh. The episode where josh gets tickets to "The Oprah Winfrey Show" from Drake. Josh drives to the show and ends up hitting Oprah with his car. Oprah is then sent to the hospital as Drake and Josh follow her. They try to get past guards to get to Oprah, but do not succeed.

Oprah signed into radio
On March 4th, 2009, Oprah signed a three-year, $55 million contract with XM Satellite Radio. The channel was named Oprah Radio. Oprah & Friends began broadcasting at 11:00 am ET.
