Operation Desert Shield Begins
Operation Desert Shield begins when American troops start moving into Saudi Arabia to defend its territories. Over 500,000 American troops were stationed in Saudi Arabia in case of an attack from Iraq. -
UN Deadline
The United Nations sends a deadline to Saddam Hussein, telling him his troops must leave Kuwait by January 15, 1991, or face full attack by the military forces stationed in Saudi Arabia. President Hussein refuses. -

Years after the First Persian Gulf War, President George W. Bush demands that Saddam Hussein steps down from power and leaves Iraq in 48 hours. This causes the start of the Second Gulf War.
