Alarm Clocks
The first alarm clock was made by Levi Hutchins in 1787. The alarm clock is becoming obsolete because of smartphones. People now just use the alarm on their phone instead of spending money on an alarm clock. -
Typewriter
The typewriter was used by everyone when it was released in 1867. People would use it to write letters and stories and everything else that they needed to write. There was no printers back then so people used typewriters. But after the creation of printers the typewriter started to become obsolete. In 2009 they stopped being produce and became fully obsolete. -
Phone Booth
The phone booth was created in May 1903 by William Gray. Everyone used them when they needed to make a call while walking around. Now everyone has a mobile phone so phone booths aren't needed anymore. They became obsolete around 2001. -
Rolodex
The Rolodex is a card holder that was used back in 1956. People would write name's and phone numbers on the card and they are alphabetically ordered. These were used back when people didn't have all of their contacts in their phones. The Rolodex became obsolete in 1997 -
VCR
The VCR was used by most people in the 80s and 90s. It was used to record your favourite shows and to watch your family nostalgia. The VCR is is in its 60s now and have been taken out by new technology. You can record your shows straight from the T.V. and stream your family moments from your phone to the T.V, The VCR was created in 1977 and has finally come to the end of the road in 2015. -
Rotary Phone
The Rotary Phone was released in 1963. You would spin the dial to every number that needed to be dialed which could be a bit time consuming. They became obsolete after the release of the touch dial phone. It was fully obsolete by the 1980s. -
Blockbuster
Blockbuster was apart of most 80s to early 2000s kids life. Back before Netflix and Disney Plus were a thing people would go to Blockbuster and rent movies and video games. The first Blockbuster was built in Dallas on October 19, 1985. The last store in Australia is closing this summer which will make it fully obsolete. -
Phone Booth
The phone booth was created in May 1903 by William Gray. Everyone used phone booths when they needed to make a call while out. Now everyone has a cell phone to make calls so the phone booth became obsolete. It became obsolete around 2001. -
Game Boy
The game boy was released in April 1989. They were a portable console made by Nintendo. After being super popular it became discontinued in 2003. -
Yellow Pages
Yellow pages were big books that had people and business phone numbers in them. If you needed a phone number you would find it in there. Now that there is Google and contacts and mobile phones people stopped needing yellow pages. They became obsolete in 2007 after being used since 1966. -
Walkman
Walkman's were portable music players that were created 1979. Most teens had these and would carry them everywhere. Sadly they stopped being manufactured in 2010 because of iPods and cell phones. -
iPods
The first iPod was released in 2001 for texting, games and face time. The iPod touch was discontinued in 2017 after being released in 2015. They became obsolete in 2016 because of mobile phones being able to do more than them.
