    Fort Sumter
    The confederates had won this war. Anderson had reported he had six weeks worth of food left in the fort. The confederate army was hoping to have a foreign force but while waiting their patience was wearing thin. April 13, Anderson surrendered the fort but their was no deaths durning this battle.
  • Bull Run

    Bull Run
    The confederates won this battle. The two generels were planning to outflank eachother. The confedrates even though they won the battle there were several communacation failures and generel lack of coordination between all of the units. The union had 460 deaths and the confederates had 387 deaths, This battle convinced the north that the civil war will be a costly affair.
  • Hampton Roads

    Hampton Roads
    The winning side in this battle is inconclusive. The union had 260 deaths and 108 while the confederates had 7 deaths and 17 wounded. Under the command of Franklin Buchanan, the CSS Virgina went straight to the USS Cumberkand off newport news. The battle between the Monitor and Merrimack during the American Civil War was history's first battle between ironclad warships.

    On April 6th 1862 the Confederate generals placed a surprise attack on Grant's forces in Tennessee. There were over 23,000 caustlties in this battle. Grant was targeting cities all over the country at the time. The Confederates had lost this battle due to the Union fighting so well. The military consequences were that this was the deadliest battle of its time. So many men had lost their lives fighting.

    In this battle Grant's army left Lee's army and moved southeast. They were hoping this would move Lee's army to better fighting locations. From May 8th- 21st the battles were on and off but there were still about 32,000 deaths on both sides. The whole battle Grant was trying to dismount the Confederates from the Spotsylvaina Court House. The final attack was made on May 18th but made no progress. Then, on the 21st Grant left Lee moving southeast still trying to make him follow.

    The start date of this event was March of 1862 and ended on July 1st. The Union had won this battle. The Peninsula Campaign of the U.S. Civil War was an unsuccessful Union adavatange against Richmond. The outcome of this battle ws taht Lee replaced Johnston as army of Northern Virgina Commander.

    In this battle Jackson had captured the Union's suppies to threaten the Pope's way of communication with D.C. On August 28th Jackson attacked a Union column east of Gainsville at Brawner' Farm. Then, on August 29th the Pope had filed assults against Jackson. On the final day the Confederates swarmed to fight the Union with a total of about 25,000 men. As you can see the Confederates had won this battle. This shows that Lee political and approach to the war, which was much more aggressive.

    The union had won this battle. This is considered one of the bloodiest single day in American histrory. More than 22,000 deaths in one day. This is also the first battle to be fought on northern soil. The reason the union won was because Lee had retreated across the river on september 18 with a total of 10,318 deaths out of the 38,000 that went to the battle, The union on the other hand had 12,401 deaths out of the 75,000 that went to the battle.

    The confederates won this battle. The battle of Fredericksburg was one of the largest and the deadlist battles of the civil war.The union lost 13,353 people and the confederates lost 4,576. It also the first major opposed river crossing in american military history, 6 weeks after this battle lincoln removed Burnside from command of the army of the Potomac.

    The confederates won this war. Early in the morning on may 2 Jackson took about 30,000 men to march across the front of the enemy army and swing around behind the army. Lee only had about 15,000 men to fight back hookers army, He managed that by attacking with a scant line of skirmishers. The battle had costed hooker 18,000 men, and the union 13,000, They also lost the most respected generel Stonewall Jackson.

    The union had won this battle. Lee had led his army on torturous retrear back to virginia. Their was 51,000 soilders dfrom both armies were killed, wounded, caputured or missing durning the 3 day battle. Four months afer the battle president lincoln used the dedication ceremony for the Gettysburg Soliders National Cemetery to honor all thhe falleen union soliders. And he made the famous Gettysburg Address.

    In the battle of Gettysburg the union won the battle. Presisent lincoln had lost confidence in the army of potomacs commander , Joseph Hooker. Joseph Hooker would not confront lee's army after the defeat at Chancellorsville. Lincoln brought in Generel George Gordon Meade to take over Hookers army. Lee offered his resignation to president Jefferson davis but was refused. After this battle and the battle of Vicksburg turned the tide of the civil war in the unions favor.

    Vicksburg began in the spring of 1862. and ended on July 4th 1863. The Union had won this battle. This battle was the final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign of the Civil War. In May of 1863 Union forces under U.S. Grant assualted the Confederate postion in Vicksburg. The outcome of this battle was on July 4th, 1863 the day after Pickett's Charge. General Grant captured Vicksburg after a three month seige.

    The confederates have won this battle. On september 19, the battle resumed the next morning with a coordinated confederate attcks on the unions left flank. Chickamauga had the highest loses of any other battle in the western theater. Although the confederates didnt reach their goal of destorying Rosecans's army. They had driven Rosecrons from the field.

    The start of this battle was May 5th. They took away their armies after failing to achieve vicotry south of the Rappahanncock River. Grant did not retreat though. Instead, he attempted to try to move Lee to the left setting the stage for the Battle of Spotsylvaina Courthouse. The battle of this battle was inconclusive.

    In this battle the Union had wanted to close the blockade to Mobile Bay on August 2nd. On Aug. 5th Farragut sent his Union fleet of 18 ships to enter Mobile Bay. But, that did not turn out very well. They recieved fire from other forts around the bay. After forcing Tennessee to surrender Union forces left Fort Gaines & Fort Morgan who controlled the bay. By August 23rd Morgan had fell and left the bay uncaptured by anyone. The military outcome was this battle started careers for some.

    The campaign began with Sherman's troops leaving the captured city of Atlanta on Nov. 16th. and ended with the capture of the port of Savannah on Dec. 21st. 21st. This battle was a continument of the Petersburgh Campaign. Sherman went into "Total War" The union soliders were killing the south's food. By the time Sherman got back to Atlanta the 10,000 guards he had there had fled. This was a very destructive war. The Union had won this battle. The military outcome was it started Sherman's Milit

    On June 9th 1864 the battle of the Petersburg Campaign began. It was a series of battles. The Confederate army had won this battle.Ulysses S. Grant had an unsucccessful attack fo the city of Petersburg. Fort Harrison's fort was captured by Grant on September 29th. The military conequences were that General Grant could not win a battle while being the General of the Union army.

    The union had won this battle. This is one of the last battles fought of the american civil war. Generel Robert E Lee surrendered to Generel Ulyssa S Grant. Lee signed the surrender documents in the parlor house owned by Wilmer McLean. The union had 164 deaths and the confederates had 500 deaths, 27,805 confederate soilders had either surrendered or paroled
  • Lincoln's Assassination

    Lincoln's Assassination
    On April 15th Lincoln was watching a proformance at the Theatre when he was shot by John Wilkes Booth. John was a planning to kidnap Lincoln for a while. His plan was unsuccessful because his target had never shown up. Booth was a well known actor at the time and had known Lincoln was going to the play so he had planned to end his life there. Lincoln's life started on February 8th, 1809 and ended on April 15th, 1865. In the political stand point was that there was no one to run the office.
