The Chicken and The Cat
Naomi is on her way to school when she sees a boy named Sho torturing a chicken. Naomi is also accused of throwing a kitten down an outhouse by a girl. -
The Doll
Naomi loses the doll that her mom had given her when she got of the train. This is important because the doll represents her connection with her mom. Like the doll Noami's mom was never seen again by her. -
Spiders
Naomi went with Obasan to the attic there she sees spiders. The spiders represent the memories she has of her childhood. -
Uncle Sam dies
Uncle Sam was the person who Naomi felt the most connected to. This is important because Sam was the person she felt like she could talk to confidently. -
Mom
Naomi finds out what happened to her mom. This is important because she finally learns why her mother never came back. -
Chief
Naomi and uncle Sam go to Coulee every YEAR. This is important because this is the closest uncle Sam he will get to the ocean. Also the day they always go is the day that Nagasaki was bombed. They did this together until uncle Sams death. 1954 to 1972 -
Coulee
Noami goes to to coulee. This is significant because this shows that she is going to continue the tradition that her and her uncle started all those years before. -
Hen
Naomi witnesses a hen killing orphaned chicks that were put in her cage. This is really important because the chicks represent the death of the Japanese and the weakness of the Japanese.
