In 1993, he acted in Mehmet Eryılmaz's short film 'I Love Ergo Sum' and improved his technical knowledge by being behind the camera during the shoot. He bought the camera on which 'I Love Ergo Sum' was shot to shoot his own short film and shot his first short film in 1993. He participated in the Cannes Film Festival with the movie Koza, of which he was the director, screenwriter and producer. Koza became the first Turkish short film selected for the competition.
