Annemarie races Ellen
At the beginning of the story, Annemarie and her friend, Ellen, were racing down Østerbrogade. When these two German soldiers spotted them and told them to Halte(halte means halt)then asked the two girls and Annemarie’s little sister, Kristi why they were running. -
The king of Denmark
Papa, Annemarie’s dad, tells Annemarie about the king of Denmark, King Christian X. He tells her that all of Denmark is his bodyguard. She then begins to question herself, and think toherself if she would be willing to give her life for someone else. -
Jewish New Year
On the Jewish New Year the rabbi told Ellen’s synagogue that the Nazis would abduct all of the Jews. So Ellen stayed with the Johansens, and she would pretend to be Annemarie’s sister. While her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rosen went into hiding with Peter, Annemarie’s sister, Lise’s fiancé. -
Nazi Soldiers go to Johansen's house
The German soldiers come to the Johansen’s house. The soldiers get suspicious because of the color of Ellen’s hair. And the Annemarie explain to them that they Ellen is her sister Lise. -
The girls go toGilleleje
Annemarie, Ellen, Kristi, and Annemarie’s mom, Inge took a train to their Uncle Henrik’s barn house in Gilleleje. The girls would have to trek ½ a mile to get to his house. Papa stayed in Copenhagen so that the soldiers didn’t get suspicious. -
Aunt Birte's funeral
A made up Aunt, named Aunt Birte’s “funeral” soon took place. During this event more German soldiers appeared asking why there were so many people gathered at the house. And Inge told them it was for a funeral, and that they couldn’t open the casket because the body had the disease, typhus. So the soldiers left. They later opened the casket that was filled with blankets and jackets. -
Inge and Peter hide the guest
Inge and Peter transported the guest to Henrik’s boat so that they could hide in there. They had to go through the wooded path because going out in the road would be too dangerous, and would be at risk of getting caught by the Nazis. And on the way back Inge fell and broke her foot. Annemarie later found her, and got to a doctor. -
The Delivery
Annemarie takes very important package to Henrik as well as his ,lunch in a woven basket. On her way she ran into some German soldiers who went through every thing in the basket even the hidden package, which was a handkerchief. After the soldiers left she kept on the path to her uncle’s boat. -
The Hankerchief
Annemarie gave the handkerchief to her uncle, who explained to her that the handkerchief was used to make a dog temporarily lose its sense of smell. He also told her where the others were.He told her they were transported to his boat safely. -
The War Ends.
The war ends, and there is a big celebration for all of the Jews. And all of the abandoned homes were filled again. But Peter who was part of the " Resistance" was soon captured and executed.
