President Eisenhower orders federal troops to enforce school desegregation
Troops were being sent to schools for desegregation. Some students got sent away to the airforce which helped them. -
Mark Charles Parker taken from jail and lynched, Popular, MS
Parker was acused of raping a pregnant white woman. Three days before he would stand trial a mob had kidnapped him and and beat him badly, they also shot him. They had found his body in Pearl River after 10 days. -
Freedom Riders attacked in Alabama while testing compliance with bus desegregation laws
Mobs from the KKK attacked the Freedom Riders. The first bus that the mobs had attacked was "The Greyhound". To stop these bus desegregations laws they would slash their tires and force everyone off. -
William Lewis Moore slain during one-man march against segregation, Attalla, AL
His marches were for Civil Rights. On his march to give a letter to the governor he was shot twice in the head. He was found dead on the road, a mile after he was interviewed by a reporter named Charlie Hicks. -
Birmingham police attack marching children with dogs and firs hoses
The organizers of this march was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. When they sent a bunch of teenagers to march they were attacked by police because they felt some type of way for doing this. 6 teenagers endeed up arrested. -
Medgar Ever, civil rights leader, assassinated, Jackson, MS
Medgar Evers was shot to death by a white supremacist named Byron De La Beckwith. Medgars death was not brought to justice until Backwith was 73 years old. This case had went through two white jurys who couldn't come up with an answer so he had been set free, Evers was traveling to tell poor AA's to to get into the Civil Rights movement. -
Schoolgirls Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley die in the bombing of the 16th St. Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL
This bombing became a key moment in the Civil Rights Movement. There is a group of lawmakers who are trying to give the Congressional Gold Medal to the four black schoolgirls who died in the explosion. -
Civil Rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwemer abducted and slain by Klan, Philadelphia
These three men were lynched by members of the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. They were working in the "Freedom Summer" campaign. They were trying to register AA's to vote. This case became a big deal and was named the Mississippi Burning. -
Jimmie Lee Jackson, civil rights marcher, killed by state trooper, Marion, AL
This man was shot and killed by the trooper Marison. Jackson had no weapons on him to fight back. Him dieing inspired the Selma to Montgomery marches which had played an important part in the American Civil Rights Movement, -
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated, Memphis, TN
Martin was assassinated but was not announced dead until he got to the hospital. A fugitive was arrested for this crime for 99 years. African Americans had lost a big piece to the Civil Rights movement when Martin passed. -
Emmet till murdered for speaking to white woman
A 14 year old boy named Emmet Till was murdered for flirting with a white woman. He flirted with a white woman in the grocery store and four days later two white men came and kidnapped him. They beat him to death.
