    The South Carolina Exposition and Protest was caused by people, mostly Southerners, protesting over the Tariff of 1828. This act was a meeting held by state legislature, in which they discussed that the Tariff of 1828 was unconstitutional. The tariff was unconstitutional because it gave too much power to the federal government and promoted nullification.

    The Tariff of 1832 was created in order to modify the Tariff of 1828. Because of the number of angry protestors, Jackson decided to modify the Tariff of 1828, while still trying to protect the industry in America. This tariff failed and eventually led to the Nullification Proclamation.

    South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification was a cause of the previous tariff acts. On November 19, 1832, the people of South Carolina came together to discuss how Congress exceeded their Constitutional powers. On November 24, 1832, the South Carolina Ordinance of Nullification was established.

    The Nullification Proclamation was an act made by Andrew Jackson that stated that no state would be allowed to declare any law by the federal government unconstitutional. Jackson stated that by doing that, was treason, and threatened to hang anyone that committed that act.

    The Force Bill was a law that allowed the President to use the military to force states into agreeing with tariffs. By doing this, Jackson got the state of South Carolina to sign the bill which allowed them to stay in the union.

    The Compromise was a tariff that was created by Henry Clay that decreased the inflation rates. Though South Carolina signed on to it, they nullified it shortly after. Jackson ignored their nullification and kept the tariff in action.
