Tariff of 1828
A protective tariff passed to protect the industry in the North. Europeans sold their stuff at lower prices to outsell the Americans and they could not keep up. The south called it the "Tariff of Abominations" because the south depended on European trade and it suffered. -
South Carolina Exposition
John Calhoun wrote an exposition on why he thought that the tariff of 1828 was unconsititutional and said that the states shoudl rally together and nullify the tariff. -
South Carolina Nullification
S.C opposed the tariffs and refused to pay them. They threatned to secde from the union if Jackson used force to collect them -
Tariff of 1832
A protection tariff in the U.S to help resolve conflicts created by the tariff of 1828, the part of the U.S who mainly oppossed the tariff was South Carolina. -
Jackson's Proclamation
After not going through with force to collected the tariff revenu in S.C, he urged the congress to pass the Force Bill to give him the pwoer to use military force to enforce tariffs in egenra. -
Force Bill
Allowed Andrew Jackson to use the army and navy to collect duties on the Tariffs of 1828 and '32. S.C then nullified it. -
Clay's Compromise
A repsonse to the Force Bill, it consited of a new tariff that would reduce the bill and the states that demended nullification backed down.
