    In 1830 congress held a long debate on the rights given to the states. The southern states sparked this debate when they expressed their opposition to the high import taxes on goods.
  • Hayne Webster Debate

    Hayne brought up this debate to settle the disagreements between the independent states and the federal government on their position of the Union. He argued that the people created the Union for the betterment of the US as a whole and that the states did it for their own personal gain.
  • Proclamation to the People of South Carolina

    This was a response from the president concerning the issue of South Carolinas Ordinance of Nullification where he completely disagreed with what was said. Jackson addressed this proclamation to the people of South Carolina to warn them if they decided to agree with the government and commit treason against the federal government.
