Jackson's Proclamation to the people of South Carolina
Andrew Jackson's Proclamation was a response to the Ordinance of Nullification. He claimed that the Ordinance was unconstitutional. He believed it would disassemble the United States as a Union. -
Ordinance of Nullification
This proclaimed both tariffs null and void within the state and threatening to secede. The Tariffs of 1828 and of 1832 were unconstitutional. -
Force Bill
This law gave the president the power to use the military to enforce the collection of import duties if a state refused to comply with federal tariffs. -
Compromise Tariff
It was used as a way for the Nullification Crisis. It provided all tariff rates above 20% would be reduced by one tenth every two years.
