This act raised taxes on imported goods, this was done to reduce the competition between foreign and American goods making more people by American goods and in turn this would help the economy.

South Carolina Exposition and Protest

This was a anonymously written this saying that if a state felt that an act passed by the government was unconstitutional they could nullify it. The state of south Carolina was saying that they basically had the right to nullify the Act of tariff of 1828.
