    Hiro (age 6) just started first grade and he already found himself answering the teacher's questions correctly and even earned a sticker for it! In Erikson's fourth stage of development, industry vs. inferiority, the main conflict is between achieving competence and confidence in their skills or feeling inadequate compared to their peers.

    Hiro's Crisis: Identity vs. Identity Confusion
    Hiro (age 18) graduates from high school and starts working with his father in an office. Although it makes him good money, he can't help but feel unfulfilled. In Erikson's stages of development, Identity vs. Identity Confusion is the crisis between establishing a good sense of self and purpose or feeling lost in life.
  • Hiro the Mentor: Generativity and Stagnation

    Hiro the Mentor: Generativity and Stagnation
    After starting his own business, Hiro (38) hires a young boy to become his assistant. He treats the boy like his own, teaching him new skills, giving him advice, and is a mentor to him. Becoming a role model for his assistant gives him a sense of purpose. Erikson's seventh stage is Generativity vs. Stagnation, it usually takes place in middle adulthood and it is the crisis between caring for the future generation or staying uninvolved, only caring for your own needs.
