industrial Revolution
From 1750-1850 North America wen through the industrial revolution. This was a large turning point for America because agriculture, transportation, and technology were all effected. Steam power, railways, and machines were all invented which made life much easier. -
The French and Indian War
The French and Indian war was also known as the seven years war. This war was fought between Austria, England, France, Great Britain, Prussia, and Sweden. This war was caused because of the want for colonial domination of the US. The English came to dominate the colonies. -
The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was a tax raise on sugar made by the British. The Stamp Act, in 1765, was very similar. This act put a tax on printed materials. Both of these acts helped to spark the American Revolution. -
Declaration of Independence
This documnt announced that the thirteen colonies of America were no longer under the control of the British and were now an independent nation. -
American Revolution Ends
The colonies of America came together to revolt against the British rule. America was successful and became the United States of America. The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783 which officially ended the war. -
George Washington-1st President
George Washington was elected the first president in 1789. This marked the start of a very strong and organized government for the US. Washington served from 1789-1797 -
US Army established by the Congress
Congress officially created the Us ARmy on this day. This was significant becuase it showed that the US was a true country and we were able to efficiently defend ourselves from other countries. -
Manifest Destiny
The idea of the US being destined to expand across the continent throughout the 19th century was known as Manifest Destiny. This was important because it played a large part in the US expansion. -
Civil War
The Civil war began in April of 1861 and ended approximately four years later. This war was fought between the confederate states or the South and the Union or the Northern States. The war ended with the Confederate States surrendering. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emanciaption Proclamation, created by Abraham Lincoln, was made to end slavery. When the document was signed, around 50,000 slaves were freed.
