    Height of the Egyptian Empire

    Height of the Egyptian Empire
    This period, commonly called The New Kingdom, was when the empire reached its height of wealth and influence. Their territory stretched from modern day Sudan to Syria. During this time, Egypt was one of the largest and most influential kingdoms in the world. Several leaders reigned during this time, and the most successful of these was Amenhotep III. During his rule, the country had a large surplus of resources and wealth, and he would regularly give aid to those in need.

    The Berber's Inhabitance of North Africa
    The Berbers have occupied North Africa since the beginning of recorded history, until the Islamic Conquests of the 8th Century CE. Modern Berber speakers are now considered a minority. The Berbers are considered a widely diverse ethnic group. The Berbers spoke a subset of the Afro-Asiatic languages such as the Egyptians, Arabs, Kushites, Syrians, Levantine tribes as well as the somalis. Nowadays, a big percentage of North Africa speaks the languages of Berber.

    Carthaginian Empire

    Carthaginian Empire
    Although established by the Phoenicians, Carthage gained independence in 650 B.C. They controlled the north coast of Africa, as well as territory in the Mediterranean. In 509 B.C. they signed a treaty with Rome that allowed them control over Northern Africa. As Rome grew in power, they took territory away from Carthage. In 146 B.C. Rome attacked Carthage and they destroyed the city. The Romans began to control parts of the coast of Africa.

    African Language and Writing is Born
    The country of Africa is known for their diverse languages across the continent. The “Berber Languages” are 26 closely related languages spoken all around the continent. The oldest found inscriptions of the Berber Languages date all the way back to 4th century B.C. The Berber speaking people were around since at least 3,000 BC, making them referenced often in Greek, Egyptian, and Roman sources. Now in modern times, Africa still speaks the languages of the Berber and are taught all over.

    Arab Invasion

    Arab Invasion
    After the Arabs completed the conquest of Egypt in 642, they raided the Berbers. In 705, this region became a province of the Muslim empire. The Arab-Muslim conquers had more impact on their culture of the Maghrib than the regions conquers before. Islamisation of the Berbers was a consequence of the Arab conquest, though neither were forcibly converted to Islam. Berber warriors were in the conquest in Spain, though they were professing Islam, they were payed less than Arab warriors.

    Berber Rebellion

    Berber Rebellion
    The Berber Rebellion took place in 739-743 AD. This was a rebellion between the Berbers and the “Maghrebs,” who inhabited the Western part of North Africa. The two civilizations were infuriated with the policies of Umayyad, who was the ruler at the time. The two got together and they attacked at different locations. Despite their efforts, the two civilizations still fell short due to Umayyads overpowering forces. While, the Berbers did lose, they did become the first Independent Muslim states.

    First European Colonizers

    First European Colonizers
    The first European colonizers were Portugal and Spain as they were one of the first Europeans to ever explore this “New World” in the first wave. Europe first started colonizing because they originally wanted to spread Christianity. This is considered an important event because If Europe had never colonized any country, the Arab empires would have and we would all be praying to Allah in the American Continent.

    Algerian Fight for Independence
    The Algerians began to seek Independence around the time of World War I, but they only began to push for it after France promised them more self-rule but didn’t deliver. Algeria started a guerilla war in 1954, deploying troops around their borders. Several serious battles occurred. French troops were able to regain control, but all the fighting discouraged France to continue their efforts. Eventually, an agreement was signed in 1962 that made Algeria independent.
  • Tunisia Gains Independence

    Tunisia Gains Independence
    In the year 1956 is when Tunisia was fully granted to become an independent country. While France was a powerful force, this did not stop Tunisia from continuing to rebel. They showed their anger and frustration a countless amount of times and their efforts looked to have paid off. After two long years of negotiations, France decided to grant Tunisia full independence. Tunisia was able to take down France’s monarchy and created the Republic of Tunisia.
  • Last Colonizers to Leave North Africa

    Last Colonizers to Leave North Africa
    By the 1900’s, a huge fraction of Africa had already been colonized by Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Italy, which are all European powers. Leaving the Western Sahara to be the last to be colonized in the year 1975. Western Sahara was colonized by Morocco for the reason being claims over sovereignty as the territory was ceded by Spain, Morocco decided to claim Western Sahara as [art of its own kingdom]
