    My name is Ning Wei. Ning means peaceful and Wei means great. I was born in Hong Kong. The oldest of 5 children. My mother and father are both chinese. i was 5 when my family left for America. We left to find work. The Opium War became a struggle. My family were farmers. I wanted to write because i wanted to eplain te life of an immigrant.

    The Opium War lasted for about 4 years. It was about the Brittish taking Opium from China. China the destroyed the Opium. After that happened, the rest is history. Hong Kong was ceded to the Brittish. Opium is dried latex. My family left because we do not believe in War. We left to America on January 3, 1842.

    Shortly after we got to America and passed Angle Island, we my parents had to face the Panic. The Panic is a financial crisis. Thousands of people lost their land, money and buisnesses. We headed to San Francisco. My mother stayed home to take care of us and my father went to mine.

    I tried to stay hidden. I didnt like to be noticed as a child. When the Compromise of 1850 was signed, that is when i began to really get interested in American history. The Compromise of 1850 was about the North, a free state, and the South, a slave state.
  • 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment says that any American citezen could vote. However this doesnt exactly always happen. By this time i was 32. I worked in the mine with my father and brother. I also got married a year later. The 15th Amendment was approved in 1870.
