  • Bohr's Model of an Atom

    Bohr's Model of an Atom
Presented in 1913 Bohr's Model states: 1) Electrons travel in orbits around the nucleus
    2) Elements chemical properties were dependent on the number of electrons the atom has.
    3) Electrons can emit photons (light energy) when they shift into a lower orbit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awxcl-RwWsk Bohr, Niels. “On the Constitution of Atoms and Molecules.” Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science , July 1913.
  • Bohr's Contributions to Science

Dr. Niels Bohr was a leader in atomic theory, and came up with the new model of an atom. Though parts of this theory have since been proved incorrect, like when he said that electrons move in a classical orbit in a stationary state, Bohr's model of an atom is still the base model for all quantum theories published after his initial proposal.
  • Niels Bohr and Hans Kramers

    Niels Bohr and Hans Kramers
As a professor, Dr. Bohr took on many notable students, such as Hans Kramers, who is known for his work on electromagnetic waves and their relationship with matter. He took on Kramers in 1916 as a doctoral candidate in Denmark. Kramers sought Bohr out for his dedicated work on the atomic model, though Bohr was not his first choice.
  • The Manhattan Project

    The Manhattan Project
Dr. Bohr was driven from Denmark to Sweden in 1943, and shortly thereafter moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico and began his work on the Manhattan Project under the name Dr. Nicholas Baker. As a leader in the atomic sciences field, Dr. Bohr served as a consultant on the Manhattan Project from 1943 to 1945. Bellis, Mary. "Niels Bohr and the Manhattan Project." • Posthumous Publications of Bohr's Works

After his death in 1962, Oxbow Press released a book compiling all of Bohr's philosophical publications. Bohr, Niels. The Philosophical Writings of Niels Bohr. Ox Bow Press, 1987.
