    In Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 7, 1885, Niels Bohr was born. Ellen Adler, who came from a prosperous Jewish banking family, was his mother. Christian Bohr was a scholar in the field of physiology. In addition to being twice nominated for the Nobel Prize, his father became a professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen.

    Education

    Bohr never had any doubts about what he would study when he enrolled at the University of Copenhagen in 1903. Insufficient space at the Polytechnic Institute, which the University leased specifically for that purpose, was used for both research and instruction in that discipline. In 1911, Bohr completed his doctoral dissertation on the electron theory of metals.

    Bohr married Margrethe Nørlund on August 1, 1912, and the union was incredibly blissful. Margrethe was his most trusted advisor throughout his life. They had six sons, the fourth of whom, Aage N Bohr.
