Dred Scott vs. Sandford
The U.S Supreme Court decided that African Americans do not have the right to become American citizens, and that the government could not regulate slavery. -
General Braxton Bragg appointed to state military board
Braxton Bragg fought in the Mexican-American War and was a coloniel in the Louisianna Militia. He was appointed to the state military board on December 12, 1860.
Braxton Briggs was a general for the Confederates. -
South Carolina Secedes from the Union
South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. Many of the other Southern states soon followed, and suceded not long after South Carolina did. -

President Arbraham Lincoln's Term
Lincoln was president during the Civil War. He created the Emancipation Proclamation which made all of the states that were a part of the Union slave free states. Abraham Lincoln pulled the United States back into one nation. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
The Union's Fort Sumter was low on men, supplies, and food. President Lincoln orderd for troops to evacuate, but they refused to surrender. Confederates attacked the Fort on April 12, 1861. The Union was outnumbered, and the Confederates won. -

Ulysses S, Grant was the main general of the Union, who's victories lead to the Union's overall victory of the Civil War. -

Robert E. Lee was the general of the US Confederate army. -

Battle of Gettysburg
Battle of Gettysburg was the largest battle of the Civil War, and the largest battle on the continent of North America. Robert E. Lee lost so many fighters that he had to pull out of battle. The Union won.
The Confederates had an army of 71,699 and 23,231 people became casualties. -
Battle at Appomattox Court House
The battle where the Confederates surrenederd, making a Union victory for the Battle at Appomattox Court House and the entire Civil War. Robert E. Lee put together a plan to break through the Union, but later realized that the Union had many more people than he thought which forced him to surrender. -

Tennessee readmitted to the Union
Tennessee was the the first state to be readmitted to the Union. They quickly abolished slavery and freed all slaves. -

President Ulysses S. Grant's term
During his term as president Ulysses S. Grant,
-Put Virginia, Mississippi, Texas, and Georgia back into the Union.
-Shut down the Ku Klux Klan.
-Granted African Americans the right to vote.
-Signed the Naturalization Act of 1870, which allowed African Americans to become American citizens.
-Signed the Civil Rights Act of 1875, which allowed African Americans to attened public events, and eat in public. -

After being a general of the Union in the Civil War, Abner Doubleday went on to command the first all African American regiment.
