The Canada expedition
Benedict Arnold led troops to Canada, which was under British control. By New Year's Eve, he had no choice but to attack well-fortified Quebec City through the blizzard. He lost hundreds of soldiers and was wounded badly in the leg. -
Valcour Bay
Benedict Arnold delayed a navy attack by General Guy Carleton. This attack could have been disastrous, but Arnold delayed the flotilla (fleet of ships) long enough that the attack failed. The British returned to Canada, defeated. -
Arnold resigns from the Continental Army
Benedict Arnold felt that he deserved more recognition than he had gotten for his heroic victories. When five junior officers were promoted above him, it was the straw that broke the camel's back and Arnold resigned. George Washington, however, managed to persuade him to reconsider. -
The Battle of Bemis Heights
During the Battle of Bemis Heights, Arnold served under General Horatio Gates. The two men held each other in contempt, and during the battle, Arnold disobeyed General Gates. This demolished the British attack and 10 days later, John Burgoyne, the British general, surrendered. However, General Gates took credit for Arnold's actions. Arnold was also wounded again in the same leg from the Canada expedition. -
Arnold becomes military governor of Philadelphia
Because Arnold couldn't be a part of active duty thanks to his leg, so Washington appointed him to military governor of Philadelphia. It was around this time that he started to spiral down to the British side.
