  • Abel Tasman made a rediscovery of NZ

    Although he never made it ashore, as there was a conflict in Golden Bay (Murderers Bay) which killed 4 Europeans and 1 maori as a result of a misunderstanding.

    He first arrived on the Endeavor where he made landfall at Poverty bay.
  • Marion du Fresne

    Was another french eplorer to visit NZ in 1772, the Maori ended up killing him and 25 of the french, whilst the French retaliated killing at least 250 local maori.

    The first industry was whaling and arrived in1791.

    The boat Fancy visited thames to collect flax for indian navalboats. A flax and timber trade began in 1827.
