New York Times writer Myron Farber is sentenced to incarceration for 6 months after being subpoenaed for his confidential sources and refusing to give them up. In addition, he has to pay a $1,000 fine and the New York Times isordered to pay $5,000 per day that Farber was in jail along with $100,000 in civil contempt fees. 40 days later Farber is pardoned by the governor of New Jersey & orders the returns of the fines against The New York Times -
Hatfill v. The New York Times
New York Times reporter Nicholas Kristof was subpoenaed to give up his confidential sources in connection to stories he had written about Steven Hatfill. Kristof refuses and appeals the order but loses. The Judge ruled that The New York Times couldn't use any of Kristof's information in the suit. In 2007, the case was dismissed because Hatfill could not prove malice by The New York Times. -
CIA Grand Jury Investigation
Judith Miller was subpoenaed for her confiential sources in the association of the leaked identity of CIA agent Valerie Plume. Miller refused to give up her sources and was found in contempt of the court. She served 85 days in prison before reaching a deal with Judge Patrick Fitzgerald to testify before the grand jury but not give up her sources. Her source was later identified as Lewis Libby although Miller refuses to state that Libby was her source. -
United States v. Sterling
New York Times writer James Risen published a book that included highly classified CIA information about a project in which Iran was being provided with faulty nuclear weapons plans. Risen leaked the story and was subpoenaed by a grand jury to identify his sources. He argued the subpoena by arguing the first amendment protected him, his motion to quash the subpoena was allowed & denied in part. He was issued a 2nd subpoena which was successfully quashed in November of 2010. -

Jana Winter, Fox News New York reporter is facing possible jail time if she is found in contempt of the court. Winter reported on the 2012 Colorado movie theater shooting & is now refusing to disclose her private source. Who could very well possibly be a law enforcement officer. The court has placed a gag order over the case
