    The First Fleet
    As there was no room in the England prisions 1,000 convicts, marines and seamen were put on a ship and sailed to Botany Bay. There were eleven ships in the First Fleet there were two navel ships, six convict ships and three store ships for the journey. Captain Arthur Phillip was in charge of the Fleet.

    The Secound Fleet
    On the second fleet there were more then 1,000 convicts on board. 260 convicts died and 480 got sick from starving and diseases. Ship masters kept all supplies to them selves to gain their own profit.
  • Crossing of the Blue Mountains

    Crossing of the Blue Mountains
    The crossing of the Blue Mountains was the journey led by Gregory Blaxland, William Lawson and William Charles Wentworth. Through their journey they found great farming lands which helped them a lot in economy in general. It became the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales by European settlers.

    Myall Creek Massacre
    Myall Creek Massacre was a tragedy where ten white Europeans and one African killed nearly 30 innocent Indigenous Australians. This tragedy happened near Myall Creek in New South Wales. After two trials seven people, involved in murdering Indigenous Australians, were found guilty and hung.

    In 1851 Edward Hardgraves found payable gold near Barthurst. This discovery started the gold rushes in Australia. Over the next decade the population increased. Soon there were over 1,000 people at New South Wales digging for gold.
  • Queensland becomes a self-governing colony

    Queensland becomes a self-governing colony
    On the 6th of June 1859 a public meeting was held to separate Queensland from New South Wales. Queen Victoria signed letters to let everyone know about the separate colonies of Queensland and New South Wales.
  • Ben Hall, bushranger

    Ben Hall, bushranger
    Ben Hall was an Australian bushranger who was known as the Australian version of Robin Hood. His gang robbed wealhy travlelers and got support from poor people to hide them. On 12th of October 1863 Ben Hall and his gang took control of the town of Conowindra in New South Wales. The gang stayed at the town for three days before escaping. On the 27th of October New South Wales offered a reward if they captured the gang. Ben Hall was shot dead by police in May 1865.
  • The Kelly Gang is formed

    The Kelly Gang is formed
    The Kelly gang was formed at the home of Ned Kelly. There was an argument between police Constable Fitzpatrick where the Kelly family and neighbours were accused of attacking the police. Ned escaped and formed a Kelly gang at Wombat range with his two friends Joe Byrne and Steve Hart. The gang ended when all members were killed and Ned Kelly was hung on the 11th of November 1880.
  • The White Australia Policy

    The White Australia Policy
    On the 13th of January 1881 the White Policy was made to restrict Chinese people to enter Australia. You had to be European or an Australian citizen to live in Australia or to come into Australia. The policy was introduced as the Ausralians were worried about Chinese people from taking their work by working with low pay. This policy ended in 1973.
  • Centenary of NSW

    Centenary of NSW
    In 1888 representatives from the Australian sister colonies went to Sydney to celebrate the hundreth anniversary with New South Wales. People from New Zealand were also there too. Victoria had separated from New South Wales in 1851 and separted from Queensland in 1859. (day and month unknown)

    The first Great Depression
    In the 1890's, the colonies suffered great depression. Wool, wheat and metal were low on prices. Farmers couldn't pay the bank interests on their loans. People couldn't trust banks and rushed to withdraw their money but the banks didn't have their money. This resulted the great depression
  • Federation

    Federation
    On the 1st of January 1901 six separate colonies of Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia became one nation. Australia became a Commonwealth of Australia and six colonies became states.
