New Civil Right Issues

  • Sit-ins

    Sit ins were mainly used in restaurants or any other sit in place. It was a peacefully quiet protest. Sit-ins got very popular in civil rights times and were populated by many famous protesters.
  • Philosophy of non violence

    The SCLC organized non violent protest. The protesters were encouraged to not fight back when attacked.
  • Dr. King

    Dr king was the most influential African american protester of all time. He was influenced by Mohandas Ghandi. He won a noble peace prize aswell.
  • Civil Rights Act

    After Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson worked to make a civil rights act. Senators tried to stall but couldn't due to cloture. The bill was passed.
  • Malcom X and Black Nationalism

    Malcom X was another influential protester. There was a difference he was not non violent. Malcom X represented the Islam religion and the African American group.
  • Black Power Movement

    This movement represented all the things that were held against the blacks. They were treated un-equal and it was not fair. Black panthers represented police violence in ghettos.
