Not so soft-spoken Activist
Early in the season, I was well aware that the Character, Sam, was very passionate about her beliefs; something needed to be done about the underlying oppression that was going on around her. she openly expresses herself through her radio station segment titled "Dear white People". -
Period: to
Love life of Sam
Sam is in a relationship with a white man named Gabe. throughout the series, she is conflicted because she is battling with her feelings from a former lover, Reggie. At the end of the series she ultimately ends up not being with either, sitting next to her best friend talking about the future of their university. -
Turning point for the activist
There was a party at one of the white student's houses and the theme was "Black Face" where students painted themselves, representing publics African American figures; only white students were invited to this gathering. -
Social Experiment
after the peek of the Black student Union discovering the party and crashing it, Sam confessed she organized the entire thing, calling it a social experiment. She wanted to expose the underlying racial issues that she had sensed was there, due to the racial tension no one seemed to notice. -
Reggie's "close call"
during a college party, things got a little bit weird for everyone when the host of the party was confronted for using the word "nigga", reciting a popular hip hop song playing in the background. The situation had gotten so uncomfortable for everyone that someone called the police; when they arrived they only ID'd Reggie. after he declined to identify himself, an officer pulled his fire arm and pointed it at Reggies head. -
Sam's discovery
through his resources, one of the news editors, Lionel, leaked that it was Gabe who called the campus police to the party which ultimately almost had gotten reggie killed. Sam was devastated. this was a major bump in their road to a happy ending. -
Sam's a fighter
After the incident at the college party, Sam and Reggie team up to take a stand against the campus police. at this point, it is clear that Sam doesn't take lightly to her people being treated unfairly; whether it's the Dean, or the campus president, she was not backing down. -
Town Hall Protest
even though it meant a pull on a 10 million dollar donation, the black student union (along with a two other groups with different problems) protested outside of town hall, where they were having a open mic for students to express their problems and concerns regarding campus life. Sam was in charge by leading the chants and at that moment, she looked iconic. This was her poster moment, if you will.
