Wrote her first novel
Nellie published her first novel, Sowing Seeds in Danny. It became a national best seller. It was followed by short stories and articles in several Canadian and American magazines. It became a very poplular book about her early life. -
Liberal Campaign
Played a leading role in the succesful Liberal campaign. She was a very sucessful and good speaker. She spoke and everyone was very amazed. -
First Province to give the women rights.
Manitoba became the first province to give the women the right to vote and to run for public office. The goverment of Canada soon followed after that, and it was possible in all of Canada. -
Nellie was Elected as a Liberal
In 1921 Nellie was elected as a Liberal. She served five years and joined with Irene Parlby. She countined her career very succesfully as a Liberal. -
Nellie was Defeated
McClung was defeated when she looked for re-election in Calgary in 1926. She never returned to politics, but devoted the next years to her family, community service, writing, and travelling. -
The Famous Five Put Together a Petition
The Famous Five, Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards, had put a very sucessful petition together to include women in the political office. They worked together to make a change -
Nellie and Emily Earn There Seat
Emily Murphy, with McClung and three other prairie women, fought battles through the Canadian Supreme Court right up to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in Britain. On October 18, 1929, they won their battle and women received the right to sit in the Senate. -
