EDWARD KELLY'S BIRTH
Edward 'Ned' Kelly was born in Beveridge, Victoria, Australia in 1855. First born son of John 'Red' Kelly and Ellen Kelly (Quinn). -
DEATH OF NED'S FATHER
When Ned was 11 and a half years old, his ex-convict father 'Red' Kelly died in Kilmore jail, serving a sentence for removing the brand from the skin of a dead calf claimed to be the property of his neighbour. -
NED'S FIRST ARREST
At the age of 14, Ned was arrested for assault and robbery of Ah Fook, a pig and fowl trader from a Chinese camp near Bright. He was accused of stealing 10 shillings. He was remanded in custody for four days. The charge was dismissed on 26 October and he was released. -
KELLY ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Kelly was arrested again for assaulting a hawker, Jeremiah McCormack. He was sentenced to three months labour on each charge. -
NED HAD STOLEN A HORSE
Ned was charged with hard labour and had to go to jail for three years. This was for stealing a horse. -
KELLY ARRESTED FOR DRUNKENNESS
Ned was arrested for drunkenness. While being escorted by four policeman he broke free and ran into a shop. The police tried to subdue him but failed and Ned later gave himself up to a Justice of the Peace and was fined. -
FITZPATRICK INCIDENT
Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick arrived at Benalla suffering from a bullet wound to his left wrist. He said he had been attacked by Ned, Dan, Ellen, their associate Bricky Williamson and Ned's brother-in-law, Bill Skillion. Fitzpatrick claimed that all except Ellen had been armed with revolvers.Ned and Dan were nowhere to be found, but Ellen was taken into custody. -
STRINGYBARK CREEK
YOUTUBE STRINGYBARK CREEKThe police were determined the hunt down the Kelly Gang. Four police with heavy arsenal were sent out from Mansfield. Their camp at Stringybark Creek received a surprise visit from the Kelly Gang. Constable Lonigan went for his revolver, before being shot dead by Ned Kelly. Sergeant Kennedy reached for his revolver and was mortally wounded. Constable Scanlon was then killed trying to drag his rifle from its holster. -
KELLY GANG DECLARED OUTLAWS
The Kelly Gang were declared outlaws after raids on the National Bank at Euroa and Faithful Creek station. The sum of 8000 pounds was put on their collective heads for robbery and murder by the New South Wales Colonial Secretary, Henry Parkes. -
KELLY GANG BANK ROBBERY
Ned and his gang held up the Bank of New South Wales at Jerilderie via the adjoining Royal Hotel. -
SHOOT OUT
Shoot out between police and the Kelly gang at Glenrowan Inn. Kelly is arrested, three members of his gang die in the shootout. -
KELLY FACES TRIAL
Kelly faces trial and is sentenced to death. -
DEATH OF NED KELLY
