Saturday Surprise I
This event happened on a Saturday strategically because Hitler knew that British officials would be at their country homes during the weekends so they would not be able to react in time. Hitler in the name of defending his country rebuilt the air force, putting the draft into the system and rearming the nation. In Hitlers defense he simply said that "the principal effect of every war is to destroy the flower of the nation. Germany needs peace and desires peace." -
Saturday Surprise II
This also happened on a Saturday for the same reason as the first "Saturday Surprise" because of all of the British officials were at their country homes and they would not be able to react to Germany's move. This "surprise" was when the Germans marched into the
Rhine Land that was originally was the Germans, but the French took it in cordance of the Treaty of Versailes. The Rhine Land was Germany's number one way of making money before the treaty took this land away from the Germans. -
Germany Invades Austria
Germany invaded Austria without force but the prime-minister of Austria did not really want Germany there. No countries interveined with this for what reason is unknown, but apperently almost all the citizens of Austria wanted to be apart of greater Germany. This vote was cast to see how many people wanted to be apart of Germany that lived in Austria and 99.7% of people who took the poll wanted to be apart of Germany. -
Hitler Gets Sudetenland
In sometime in 1938 there were meetings between the countries of Germany, France, British and Italy about the discussion of whether Sudetenland should be given to Germany. The land was given to Germany but the Czech government never even had a say in the meeting. -
Hitler Addresses the Critics
In a speech that Hitler made on the 30th of January addresses his critics of other countries about how Germany mistreated Jews. Hitler points out that other countries are being hypocrites and kind of avoided the question so that he would not be brought down by other countries for racism but would not lose followers in Germany. -
Targeting Poland
The Nazis took Polish prisoners from a concentration camp to a town called Gleiwitz. They were publically executed and then the SS men and German soldiers invaded into Poland. -
The "Yellow Star"
Towards the end of the year 1939 Jews were insturcted that they had to wear a yellow star on their clothing so that Nazi officials could identify them. Also the Jews could not be on the streets between the times of 9:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M. -
The Fall of France
By the middle of June, 1940 France had fallen to the power of Germany. This was a very helpful advantage to the Germans because they were able to bomb the British from across the English Channel which was known as the Battle of Britain. -
The Invasion of Russia
On this date Hitler ordered the invasion of Russia to destroy all the Jews that lived there. As the German army marched into Russia 4 SS units followed close behind them. -
The United States Enters the War
Germany declares war on USA because of the cry for help from the Japenese Empire because they had "awakening of a sleeping giant". This was not a smart move according to the advisors to Hitler because there would now be 3 super powers fighting against the Germans the British the Soviets and the Americans.
