Davis is know for being an Activist and leader of the communist Party USA , Which had clsoe ties to the Black Panther Party. she was also know for embracing her Natural hair and encouraging others to do the same. -
Kathleen Cleaver
The 1960's is often called the beginning of the Natural Hair movement. With prominent groups such as the Black Pathners leading the way in the Civil Rights Movement natural Hair becoam a way for African Amercians to express themselves. In 1968 Kathleen Cleaver one of the members of the Black Pather Party gave a speech about natural hair which many say gave way to the movement for many years to come. -
Melba Tolliver
Melba Tolliver was a news anchor on ABC, and when she was asked to cover the wedding of Presiden Richard Nixon's daughter, she was fired because she wore an Afro to the wedding aganist ABC's wishes. -
Cleopatra Jones
In 1973 Tamare Dobson stared as Cleopatra Jones in the action film. since in the 70's there was still alot of racial tension Dobson brok many race barries and wore her her in a natural afro throughout the whole movie. -

In 1974, Pam Grier followed in the footsteps of Dobson and starred the action film Foxy Brown. Greir also wore her hair in an Afro throughout the movie. -
Bo Derek
In 1979 a new natural hairstyle came into play known as braids. Braids broke the color barrier when Bo Derek who is white wore braids and beads in the movie "10". -

In the 1980's model, singer and actress Grace Jones rose to fame. she was known for her distinct look which icluded a low top afro bush. -
