  • Tasmanian Fire

    Southern Tasmania experienced an extreme drought that led to the burning of 264,270 hectares in five hours. The fire killed 62 people and burned 1,400 homes in total.
  • Cyclone Tracy

    Cyclone Tracy
    The town of Darwin was completely flattened by the 155 mph winds. The storm also dropped about 7 inches of rain on the town in less than nine hours. 25,000 residents were left homeless and 71 killed.
  • Ash Wednesday Bushfires

    All across south-eastern Australia a massive fire burned destroying 2,500 houses and killing 75 people. Among the 75 killed, 47 were from Vistoria and 28 were in South Australia.
  • Newcastle Earthquake

    Newcastle Earthquake
    New South Wales experienced a 5.6 magnitude earthquake. It was felt over 200,000 square kilometers with the epicenter 15 kilometers south-east of Newcastle's business district. The earthquake took the lives of 13 people and hospitalized about 160 others. It's estimated that 40,000 homes were damaged and an additional 50,000 buildings were damaged.
  • Thredbo Landslide

    The landslide, around 2,000 cubic meters, fell on the Carinya Ski Lodge. It continued to fall and destroy everything in it's path. About 3,500 tons of rubble was created and burried when it was all said and done. 18 people died during the landslide.

    Just off the southern coast of New South Wales huge hail fell from the sky due to a storm off the coast caused excessive damage. Cars, airplanes, homes, and other buildings were affected greatly. The hailstones were the size of tennis balls with some the size of a softball.

    A catagory five cyclone struck North Queensland causing immense damage to homes and crops. No one died but many were affected. The affected regions had a cost of 1.5 billion dollars in damages.

    In Victoria, Australia 173 people lost their lives to an extremely large fire that damaged or destroyed over 2,000 houses. The bushfires cost the nation around 4.4 billion dollars.

    A series of floods occurred in early December 2010, causing a forced evacuation of over 200,000 people from about 70 towns. Queensland was declared a disaster zone. The overall cleanup was estimated to coat around one billion dollars.
